July 26th, 2006 - “Fran has been a strong partner with us in seeking to protect and enhance our national parks. Her efforts to collaborate with state and local officials are a profound and lasting contribution,” U.S. Senator Craig Thomas said.
“By encouraging partnerships with friends groups and gateway communities, she was able to further the goals of the Park Service, while fostering a sound tradition of teamwork.”
Senator Thomas will be actively engaged in the selection process for the next director of the National Park Service. Wyoming's senior senator is the Chairman of the National Parks Subcommittee.
Thomas noted the efforts of Mainella to change the course of the National Parks management policies after significant public and Congressional input.
